Often people party with drugs and alcohol not so much because they want to have fun, but because they want to forget about their worries for a while. These worries can be serious and really hard to deal with — things like verbal or physical abuse from family members, consistent problems concentrating in the classroom, issues of sexual identity, depression and burdensome responsibilities outside school. Drug and alcohol use is sometimes a symptom of struggle with one or more of these problems.
If you’re trying to cope with problems like these, you may want to seek help or counseling for that specific problem, and learn how it may be related to your drug and alcohol use. This section provides some resources — toll-free phone numbers and websites — that may be useful.
